New research by the Literacy Trust has found:

  • Of those children who never read outside school, just 6% are above the expected level of reading for their age
  • Young people who read outside of the classroom were 13 times more likely to read above the expected level for their age.

New reading incentive

This week the children have been introduced to our new and exciting reading scheme which begins throughout school this half term. The children will be provided with a book list (see below) from which they will choose a book to read at home (most of the books are available from local libraries) and complete a book review of the book in school. For a completed book review, they will receive a stamp on their loyalty card. A completed stamp results in an exclusive ‘café’ visit with Mrs Broadbent where they will receive a hot chocolate at the end of the half term. They will also be entered into a draw for a half-termly trip with school to the city library.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.
